FLUID CITY

May 12th, Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrave Square
Photography meets jazz in the citiest of cities!
An evening with the Tommaso Starace Quartet - and more.

Jazz and photography - two complementary ways to approach urban reality and reveal its innermost essence... The quintessential urban sound, jazz is unthinkable apart from large cities that never sleep and never stop... And nowhere there's more visual and human variety than in the dense juxtapositions of London's cityscape... On May 12, Italian Nights are proud to bring to London a double whammy of an event: a jazz evening combined with a photographic competition and exhibition.

Jazz and photography together under one roof, as part of the same event - why not? Those sitting in front of the music stage will be able to see back-projections of the selected photos - while those ambling about in the exhibition on the floor below will get to hear the live music through loudspeakers. Total freedom to roam from one level to the other. Here is a format bound to create a gripping synergy between the image and the sound. Natural allies, the riffer and the snapper...

As in our first-ever Italian Jazz Festival back in 2008, Italian Nights will bring to London top-of-the-range jazz musicians - and we are calling on all photography lovers out there to send us their submissions to add to the mix. The chosen entries will be diplayed on the day at the Italian Cultural Institute in Belgrave Square, and the very best will receive prizes.
